Evgeniya Gorchakova
About the exhibition "Global skyline" is one of the projects of a series of exhibitions of Eugenia Gortchakova. It develops the theme of "otherness" (one of the main problems of postmodern discourse), which in this case is considered in relation to the space. Human perception of reality is the result of multiple refractions through the prism of different states, sensations, feelings. The more a person is able to absorb, the more wide is the horizon of his perception, the more sharp is his inner vision. In her project Eugenia Gortchakova does not just engage the viewer into a dialogue, but considers him as part of the context. Transformation of everyday life into an artistic image happens In our consciousness. Photos from archive of the author, which were made in different parts of the world and installed on the wall in the form of skyscrapers, create a space of dialogue of cultures, unity of domicile on the planet Earth, the pulsation of life. Documentaries of the life and work of the Tajik construction workers in the village Rubljovka (video "Breakfast in Rubljovka", 2012), combined with music by J. Behrman and M. Ravel, which not only resonate with arising in each person a sense of injustice of what is happening, but also convey the beauty of the rhythms of their work. Everyday scenes of life in Berlin (video "Tarlets and Devils", 2013), interspersed with philosophical texts of the writer Irina Liebmann and artist Yuri Leiderman, show the coexistence of multiple communities. The video "Free as a leaf in the wind. 8204 days of correspondence between Hanna Arendt and Karl Jaspers" (2009) is based on a complex idea: New York is visually recognisable only at the moment of communication (receiving a letter), has become an expression of the idea that what is experienced and passed through oneself becomes understood and can be labeled as "mine". In the photo series "Reflection" the artist also works with the everyday life, taking photos of what catches the eye. Multiple exposure determines the composition and content of the picture photo: the usual views of the city discover another reality, that is unique for every beholder. The artist discovers that besides obvious spaces there are a lot of hidden ones. Art is one of the instruments that allow to see more than eyes can see. Eugenia Gortchakova works with overtones in the paintings (object "Tower" and the installation "Take a deep breath"), creating abstract images by small strokes, which become a kind of reproduction of gathering the moments of life that build our inner space. Thanks to the project, we find ourselves in one or another point of space, absorb various images of different places and people from different perspectives, see the world and ourselves and our horizon becomes global.
