EXHIBITIONS & PROJECTS

Vova Vishnyakov, Nikolay Brezhinski
(Chelyabinsk)
KLYAKSIKA
Interactive media installation "Museum of revived photos", objects and animation film "Frikozoids", drawings
February 9-22, 2011

"It is not clear and simultaneously complies with logic, that you can not explain, it is clear..."

Writing about V. Vishnyakov and N. Brezhinski is the same as to perform somersault in the mind of a sensible person. If you ask them, but actually, what you do, Vova says that he is a free artist, and then corrects himself - "there are no independent artists". Nikolay will deny everything, and leaves the room in which you asked the irrelevant question. But certainly one need to understand, because the public and journalists will ask with predilection. At this momet I remember seemingly Vova's salutary words about his first impressions of the show of Gennady Abramov*: "It is not clear and simultaneously complies with logic, that you can not explain, it is clear". So, in this system of coordinates it is necessary to exist, and this phrase is put by me in the title, it sets the right tone.

Vova and Nikolay bring one quality that determines their existence in life and in art - improvisation. This method of work we notice in the drawings by N. Brezhinski, in creating of objects and cartoon "Frikozoids" and an interactive media installation "The museum of animated photographs" by V. Vishnyakov. And here I should digress from the subject matter and to make of the brackets, the thing that was there a second ago. Namely, in the glossary Vishnyakova (he is the chief cheerleader in this exhibition project) drawings are called crooked drawings, objects and animation - art parade, interactive media installation - antique media project. And it is crucial to an understanding of the essence, from which I retreated. And it is essentially important for understanding the strategies of these artists. In art works of Vishnyakov and Brezhinski everything is progressing and is called only by their inherent logic. Inventing is not from mind, but from getting or consciously setting yourself in the certain situation.

Thus "The museum of animated photographs" arose. First there were the ancient photos, which were with close people for someone, with acquainted people for somebody, and captured the distant past for all, but for Vova - a material that is attracted and required to pass through itself. By processing the photos, he looked into the eyes of a character trying to figure out that one does, feels at the moment of photographing, suggests that followed after the shutter clicked. From this process of scrutinizing and immersing its history came out. "It is not only in photography, it is possible to extract a history of the character from any drawing." (V. Vishnyakov).

Frikozoids - "the fruit of imagination grieved by creative crisis", which was provoked during Vova Vishnyakova's work on commercials last fall (one must earn a living). These surreal creatures were glued together from small interesting parts, stuff, toys of Kinder Surprise, and gears found on the streets (all represents art value for V. Vishnyakova). With the lapse of time, the characters, settled on the table of the artist, began to interact among themselves and with visitors who came to the Vishnyakov, required to animate them. That's simply and naturally originated cartoon of the same name.

Both Vova and Nikolay consider their own creative space like underground, resisting the obsessive art standards. "A person needs the horizon, - Nikolay says - the city deprives us of it, and not to look crazy, we are engaged in creative work." Therefore, drawing for him is a part of life, watching what is happening around and within himself, without the horizon, simultaneously it's the laboratory, where you can experiment, giving a report to nobody.

Two bright personalities seamlessly coexist in the same exhibition space, creating environment being unusual for us and natural for themselves.
